Douceur Japon is a personal site, written and published by Wakako from Hiroshima. It isn't a company, and it doesn't make its living from your data.
There are no analytics on this site. No Google Analytics, no advertising pixel, no third-party tracker. I don't know who you are, where you came from, or what you read. Your data is never sold, rented, or passed to anyone for commercial purposes.
This page covers the only situations where information about you is recorded.
What I collect, and when
If you sign up to the newsletter. The form asks for your email address and nothing else. It is used to send you new articles, and for nothing else. The legal basis is your consent, which you give by subscribing and can withdraw at any time.
If you write to me through the contact form. The form asks for your first name, your email address and your message. These are used only to reply to you. The legal basis is your consent.
When you simply read the site. The host automatically records technical logs: IP address, date and time, page requested, browser. This is how every web server works, and it's necessary for the site's security and availability. I don't read these logs individually and they aren't linked to your identity.
The services I use
I don't hold this data myself. It passes through the following providers, each with its own privacy policy:
- MailerLite — newsletter management (your email address). Privacy policy
- Formspree — delivery of the contact form (first name, email, message). Privacy policy
- Cloudflare — site hosting and technical logs. Privacy policy
- Google Fonts — the site's typefaces load from Google's servers, which passes your IP address to Google each time a page loads. Privacy policy
Some of these providers are based outside the European Union, which means data is transferred outside the EEA under the safeguards each of them operates.
Cookies
This site sets no advertising cookies and no analytics cookies. MailerLite may set a functional cookie related to the signup form. There is no consent banner because there is nothing to consent to — no tracking takes place.
How long data is kept
- Newsletter email address — until you unsubscribe. Unsubscribing removes your address from the list.
- Contact form messages — kept while your enquiry is being dealt with, then deleted once they serve no further purpose.
- Server logs — kept for the retention period applied by the host.
Your rights
If you live in the European Union or the United Kingdom, the GDPR gives you the right to access the data held about you, to have it corrected, to have it deleted, to object to its processing, to request a portable copy, and to withdraw your consent at any time.
In practice:
- To leave the newsletter — the unsubscribe link is at the bottom of every email. It's immediate and you don't need to write to me.
- For anything else — write to me through the contact form. Tell me what you want (access, correction, deletion) and I'll handle it. I usually reply within the week.
If you believe your data hasn't been handled properly, you have the right to complain to the data protection authority where you live — in the UK, the ICO; in France, the CNIL.
